Charity fundraiser Yvette Price-Mear has raised more than £10,000 for three causes after completing a unique bingo-themed marathon.

Yvette, of Burnt Oaks Close, Mansfield Woodhouse, combined her love of bingo and fundraising to celebrate her 60th birthday in style.

She visited 60 Mecca Bingo clubs over six months to mark the company’s own 60th birthday and, after travelling 4,200 miles, finished her marathon effort at Mecca’s oldest club in London on her 60th birthday.

Explaining how her fundraising came about, Yvette said: “I did 14 clubs in seven days in 2018 and it was such great fun.

“When Mecca asked for ideas for their 60th birthday celebrations I thought they are 60 and I am 60 so we can go for it.

“Over some weekends we visited six clubs. It has been wonderful in so many different ways.”

Yvette and her husband, Tony, who provide respite care for adults with learning disabilities, began the marathon in Glasgow.

She was often accompanied by Louise Bolz, who has Down’s Syndrome, and Yvette said it was wonderful to see her blossom during their travels.

The fundraising helped the charity that Yvette founded, Pet Bereavement Support, Carers Trust — Mecca’s adopted charity — and 4th Mansfield Woodhouse Scouts.

“My charity bingo-a-thon has been an incredible life experience, and I’ve met so many wonderful people from across the country,” she said.

“I’m so thrilled with the amount I have managed to raise, which is all thanks to the generosity of Mecca customers and teams.

“My final night went out with a bang, and the wonderful team at Mecca Rosehill put on the most amazing night for my 60th birthday.”

Mecca provided complimentary bingo at each of the 60 clubs she visited to enable her to put all winnings into her charity pot. This, combined with additional donations at each venue, enabled Yvette to raise £10,500.

Mark Jervis, general manager at Mecca Rosehill, said: “We’re so honoured to have hosted Yvette for her final tour night and 60th birthday.”

Svetlana Kirov, executive director of fundraising at Carers Trust, said: “Every so often you meet fundraisers prepared to go the extra mile. Yvette is one of those.

“Her dedication to fundraising for unpaid carers has been astounding and we are extremely grateful not just for the money, but also for the way she has raised public awareness.

“The money she has raised could not have come at a better time. Unpaid carers are worn out after having to take on extra caring responsibilities because of lockdowns and the closure of essential support services.

“The money raised will be put to good use helping pay for respite breaks for carers and essential household items that will make all the difference to their caring roles.”
