Big Event showcases career opportunities in public services

If you’re looking for a job that offers the satisfaction of knowing you are helping to improve the lives of local people, an upcoming event that showcases working in public services could help set you on the right career path.

The Big Event is being held at Mansfield Central Library on Thursday, 16 February (2-4.30pm).

It is particularly useful for people who are interested in:

•An apprenticeship after leaving school, college or sixth form
•Returning to work after a career break
•Taking on a part-time job, following retirement
•Working in the public sector and want to know more about pay, benefits and career development available.

Jobs in the public sector are diverse, covering a huge range of disciplines and roles such as teaching, social work, customer service, building repairs, social care, catering and cleaning.

Up to 30 different public sector employers will be represented at the Big Event, including Derby Business College, Derbyshire County Council, Mansfield District Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Training for Business and Vision West Nottinghamshire College.

They will be available to discuss the different opportunities available and how to apply for jobs and training courses. A number of employers will be able to arrange interviews there and then.

The event has been organised by D2N2 Public Services Compact.

Councillor Alan Rhodes, leader of Nottinghamshire County Council said: “Many people will be surprised by the amazing career opportunities and huge range of job disciplines and professions covered by the public sector.

“The Big Event will help shine a light on the opportunities available in public services – from manual work to management to the benefit of everyone from young children to the elderly.

“Whatever your skills, experience or ambitions, there’s every chance that there is a job role in public services which would appeal to you – especially if you are looking for the job satisfaction that comes with knowing you are helping to improve the daily lives of local people.”
