Banking hub opens in Kirkby

Posted onPosted on 17th Jul

A new banking hub has opened in Moor Market, Kirkby.

Ashfield District Council is hosting the hub, which offers a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. It will also offer a community banker service where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated issues on the day their bank is in the ub:

 Monday: Santander (am)/Barclays (pm)

Tuesday: HSBC (am)/Virgin Money (pm)

Wednesday: Lloyds

Thursday: NatWest

Friday: Halifax

The council  submitted the successful bid to LINK in February 2023 following the closure of three bank branches. The hub is operated by Cash Access UK.

Coun Matthew Relf, executive lead for Regeneration and Planning, said: “We know that so many residents and businesses have struggled with the lack of face-to-face banking in Kirkby since the banks closed and so we have been working hard to bring a banking hub here. This will make a huge difference to people’s lives.”

Gareth Oakley, chief executive of Cash Access UK, added: “Access to cash and banking services are very important for millions of people and we’re pleased to be helping many communities with new services on their high street.”

Ashfield MP Lee Anderson said: “Residents who follow me on social media will know that I have been working with Cash Access UK on this behind the scenes.”
