Award-winning Mansfield Male Voice Choir welcomes new faces

Posted onPosted on 8th Feb

Choirs are bouncing back after losing membership during the pandemic — none more than Mansfield and District Male Voice Choir (MMVC).

Musical director Ian Grice said: “More recently we are starting to see membership increasing again and our choir is delighted to welcome two new members to our fold — Martyn Hopkinson and Philip Donovan.

“After voice tests and a few weeks of familiarisation and support, they have settled into our second tenor section and are enjoying the experience.”

Martyn (pictured above with Ian) joined MMVC last summer 2022 and said he enjoyed the singing and camaraderie.

“I was a choirboy in my youth at St Lawrence’s Church, Mansfield, so I love singing and being part of a group,” he added.

“During the last two years I sang in Mansfield Community Choir and it was a real pleasure to experience younger people singing.

“After both choir practices and concerts I get a feelgood factor — living proof that being in a choir is good for your mental health and wellbeing.

“Everyone at MMVC have been very supportive and encouraging, especially considering their many years of male voice choir experience. I thoroughly recommend joining a choir.”

Philip (above) joined the choir after being enthralled at a concert.

“I nervously turned up for choir practice, but found a warm welcome and immediate friendship — and soon felt at ease. I have been blown away by the quality of the singing.

“Many moons ago I sang in the local church choir. Now, after joining the MMVC, I’m hoping my parents will be looking down at me in reverence.”

Mansfield Male Voice Choir has raised more than £30,000 for charity in the past six years and always welcomes new members. To find out more go to www.mansfieldmvc.co.uk
