Mansfield and Ashfield Wildlife Watch, the junior version of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, has won a national award for the best new watch group.
It was launched in October, 2012 for children aged over 8 to explore nature reserves and regularly attracts up to 20 youngsters.
The group meets at St Mark.’s Church Hall, Mansfield, on the first Saturday of the month, 10.30am-12.30pm.
In the past year it has sowed wildflower seeds with balloons, picked litter, painted eggs to resemble wild bird eggs, had a visit by owls, built dens, and visited a heath to discover dragonflies and bees. Some members have completed Wildlife Watch Hedgehog awards.
