Ashfield District Council Marks White Ribbon Day 2022

Posted onPosted on 1st Dec

Ada Lovelace House in Kirkby is currently bathed in light for 16 days to mark White Ribbon Day and 16 Days of Activism, which ends on 10th December.

White Ribbon Day is an annual awareness campaign that was celebrated on Thursday 25th November and aims to end male violence against women and girls.

The council endorses the White Ribbon mission to prevent violence against women and girls by creating awareness and providing support to survivors across Ashfield.

It is holding information sessions across the district throughout the 16 days to highlight the support that can be offered to survivors of domestic abuse. The events will be supported by Nottinghamshire Police and Nottingham Independent Domestic Abuse Services (NIDAS) and include one on 7th December at Vision West Notts College Derby Road Campus, Derby Road, Mansfield.

Coun Helen-Ann Smith, executive lead member for Community Safety and Crime Reduction, said: “We are proud to once again be an accredited advocate for White Ribbon Day and 16 Days Of Activism. The importance and impact it has on the people affected can’t be overlooked. We will work to inform, educate and reinforce the unacceptable behaviours which have no place in society.”

Coun Sarah Madigan, executive lead member for Customer Services and Strategic Planning, added: “We know that domestic abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of gender.  Please come and talk to us if you are worried about someone you know, or if you are being abused. Help and support is always available.  We have dedicated domestic abuse officers who are here to listen and provide any assistance that you need.”

In an emergency always call the police on 999 or 101 if a non-emergency.
