Army visitors gain young pupils’ attention!

Posted onPosted on 6th Jul

Children at Mapplewells Primary & Nursery School (Sutton in Ashfield) took part in activity workshops with members of the 7th Infantry Brigade of The Desert Rats’ Engagement Team.

The youngsters raced through camouflage nets and completed building, problem-solving and team-building exercises.

Fran Marshall, support staff leader at Mapplewells, who co-ordinated the workshops for pupils, said: “We wanted children to have a fun and memorable time, creating opportunities for children to discover new things about themselves and develop their team-working skills.

“Our visitors ensured that everyone was able to participate.”

Six-year-old Ava Constable added: “We have been doing different challenges, getting bean bags and going under the netting — that was hard! I got stuck in the net, but it was fun.”

WO2 Brett Thompson, Engagement Warrant Officer, said, “We work with children from Foundation Stage at primary schools right up to college students.

“It’s all about creating age appropriate, fun activities and working with young people to build positive relationships.”

Tommy Butts, 7, said: “My favourite game was where we had to find some hidden numbers. I want to be in the Army one day.”
