Accessible changing facility opens at Dukeries Leisure Centre

Posted onPosted on 4th Feb

A new self-contained toilet, changing, and showering facility for people who require accessible amenities has opened at Dukeries Leisure Centre.

Funded by Newark and Sherwood District Council, the facility, located within the pool hall adjacent to the swimming pool, includes horizontal and vertical grab rails throughout, a ceiling-mounted hoist system, height-adjustable changing table, showering facility, adjustable height wash basin, colostomy shelf, privacy screen, and accessible, transferable toilet.

Coun Mike Pringle, ward member for Ollerton at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “The leisure centre is such an important and much-loved community facility that many within Ollerton and surrounding areas regularly use and benefit from.

“It is important to us at Newark and Sherwood District Council and Active4Today to ensure that everyone can enjoy the centre. Getting this changing room in place has been a priority for us so that anyone who may need accessible amenities will be able to change safely and comfortably.”

Coun Andy Freeman, chairman of Active4Today, which runs the centre, added: “We are sure this facility will be greatly received and well used. The self-contained changing provision demonstrates the commitment the district council has for providing community leisure facilities, which are both affordable and accessible.”
