Samworth Church Academy students have organised an epic challenge for charity this weekend – to complete the 3 Peaks Challenge, inside 24 hours.
The four students will be accompanied by staff and a backup team including Neil Smith, a governor who has agreed to drive the team between the peaks.
Student Will Smith, Neil’s son, said: “We will be walking up the three largest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales – Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowden all in 24 hours. We are raising money for the British Heart Foundation, which is the academy’s charity this year.”
Neil said: “I think that what these four year 10 lads are undertaking is nothing short of awe inspiring; it’s a challenge that most fit and able adults would find a struggle and something that shouldn’t be underestimated.
“I have agreed to be one of the minibus drivers for the trip, which feels like a challenge in itself covering over 1,000 miles.”
The team plan to leave the academy early on Friday morning, driving to the foot of Ben Nevis to camp overnight and start their first climb on Saturday morning.
The team have a justgiving page where donations can be made at https://www.justgiving.com/Marley-Smith-Severn-Wade2015
