A week of raising aspirations

Posted onPosted on 15th Mar

A careers week aimed at inspiring the next generation introduced students at The Garibaldi School, Forest Town, to future careers and apprenticeship schemes, as well as further and higher education.

The school, which is part of the Nova Education Trust, saw almost 400 people attend its inaugural careers fair.

Headteacher, James Aldred said: “A key element of our mission statement is to ensure that by the time our students leave, they’ve gained the skills, qualities, and qualifications needed for a successful, happy, and fulfilled future.

“Our hope is that we can build the event over time and bring together even more providers, so if any local employers, education or training providers would like to be involved in 2024 we’d love to hear from them.

“Raising Aspirations Week is just one week of our school calendar where we have a specific focus on careers and next steps. This complements our curriculum, where careers advice and guidance is built into every subject.

The school hosted a range of employers, institutions, and careers providers from across Nottinghamshire and beyond. They included the NHS, Armed Forces, Experian, Ask Apprenticeships, West Nottinghamshire College, the University of Nottingham, and Nottingham Trent University.

Throughout the week the timetable at the school was dropped to allow students to attend workshops from employers, education providers, and past students.
