Athlete Stuart King to run on national stage

Kirkby Woodhouse runner Stuart King (pictured) has won a place at the Indoor British Championships at The English Institute of Sport (EIS), Sheffield, for a third successive year.

King (27), who ran superbly to reach the 1,500 metres final in 2015, made the championships after reaching the qualifying time in the British Milers Club (BMC) annual Indoor Grand Prix at the EIS.

King, of Heanor Running Club, ran 3.53.34 to just squeeze inside the 3.54.00 qualifying time.

He was racing against some of the country’s best 1,500-metre runners, including Harry Harper, Robbie Fitzgibbon and Archie Davis.

On Sunday he also claimed a 3,000 metres bronze at the Midlands Indoor Championships, at the same venue.

King said: “I have sacrificed the whole of the cross-country season to better prepare myself for the British championships to try to improve on last year’s result (where he made the final and was ninth).

“I feel as though I am progressing how I should be and I am on track to deliver a positive performance.”

The indoor national championships are on 27th and 28th February,
