Sutton DJ a hit on Stateside Wolverine Radio

Radio show presenter Leighton Morris has been handed the key to an American city after broadcasting on its station from his home in Sutton.

Leighton (40), who works full-time for the Co-op at its Castlewood Distribution Centre, South Normanton, has also been made programme director, despite only working at Wolverine Radio in Jewett City, Connecticut, for less than a year.

The former King’s Mill Hospital Millside Radio DJ broadcasts via from a studio at his home on Stuart Street.

He heads up the station’s afternoon show and is on air from 7pm-midnight UK time.

Leighton received the key from First Selectman Kevin Skulczyck on a trip to Jewett City in September.

“It was an immense honour,” he said. “I was given the key because they value my work and the contributions I have made to the city.

“I have always loved American radio because it is fresh and exciting.

“This is a dream, so even if it means pre-recording the last bit of my show so I can get to bed for work in the morning, I make it work.”

He said he listens to the station via an app and is in regular contact with other presenters via email to advise on changes and new ideas and features.

Station owner Mike Minarsky said Leighton was the most popular DJ/presenter on Wolverine.

“I got acquainted with Leighton while working for another internet station in the States,” he said.

“I immediately thought that his wit and charm would be a hit on our station. Leighton has built his afternoon drivetime slot through social media interaction and show features that are relevant and smart.

”He has come up with and fed me promotional ideas that are revenue generating.

“Leighton is invested in Wolverine Radio, and we are invested in him.”
