1,560 years of service

Sixty long-serving Mansfield District Council staff have been praised for their hard work and dedication during a special ceremony at Mansfield’s Civic Centre.

Together they have clocked up 1,560 years’ service between them with 56 staff achieving 25 years’ continuous service and four having worked for 40 years.

Deputy mayor, Coun Mick Barton, and interim chief executive Bev Smith, presented the long-service awards, recognising their commitment to providing an excellent service to the community.
Many of those awarded have spent their whole working career at the council.

They include Trevor Roberts, who joined at the age of 17 and has now celebrated four decades working within local government.

“I started off at Mansfield District Council as an apprentice and have gradually worked my way up to chargehand vehicle mechanic,” he explained.

“I started as an apprentice mechanic where, along with time at college, I completed my training. Over the years my role has changed and developed.

“During the last four decades many things have changed, including the depot and the range and types of vehicles that we work on.

“There’s always a challenge but we arrive every day to try to meet that challenge.”
Coun Barton said: “It was a privilege to present these awards and recognise the contribution made by people who are dedicated to providing an excellent service to the community of Mansfield.”
