Stags held to a draw

Mansfield Town 1
York City 1

The woodwork twice denied the Stags a second half winner as their hopes of returning to the play-off places were thwarted by relegation-threatened York City in a 1-1 draw.

Matt Green squandered the best chance of securing only Mansfield’s fourth home win of the season, hammering substitute Nathan Thomas’ cross against the bar from close range when it looked easier to score.

Reggie Lambe was also denied by the bar when his 22-yard drive thudded against the woodwork with keeper Scott Flinders beaten.

Lambe and Krystian Pearce, who headed a 31st minute equaliser from Adam Chapman’s corner, were also stopped by the diving Flinders as the home side dominated possession.

York had taken the lead in the 10th minute when they tried to play an offside trap at a free kick and Dave Winfield nipped in to flick past Brian Jensen.
