Chernobyl Lifeline presentation

The Pinxton-based Chernobyl Children Lifeline’s Richard Street and Mariya Bylina, an English teacher in Belarus, gave a presentation to the Rotary Club of West Ashfield.

Mr Street, the main organiser, said: “Much of the credit for this has to go to the wonderful families who host these children and the wonderful people and organisations who help fund the travel costs of the children.

“The Rotary Club of West Ashfield has been doing for a number of years and have given life-changing opportunities to many children in that time, something we are most grateful for.”

The Chernobyl Children Life Line brings children to the UK who are suffering from the effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

The children, nine boys and nine girls, along with their group leader, came on a convalescing break from their homes in Belarus.

Mr Street said bringing the children to the UK for a month boosted their immune system. The children also received dental and optical checks and treatments.
