On Sunday, hundreds are expected to participate in the highly-anticipated Mansfield 10K. The race replaces the well-supported Mansfield Half Marathon, which ended in 2011, and aims to regenerate interest in the town centre, promote healthy living and wellbeing and raise money for Nottinghamshire-based charity, Reach Learning Disability.
Due to the nature of this event, residents of Mansfield should expect higher volumes of public on the streets throughout the day, and temporary morning road closures between 9:00hrs through to 12:00hrs.
Nottingham Road, 9:00hrs – 10:00hrs: At 9:30hrs runners will start the race opposite Titchfield Park and Water Meadows. There will be no access to St Peter’s Way from Nottingham Road or vice versa between 9:00hrs – 10:00hrs.
St Peter’s Way (A60), 9:00hrs – 12:00hrs: The inside road of St Peter’s Way will be closed from 9:00hrs through to 12:00hrs. Vehicles will not be able to turn right onto St Peter’s Way from any side streets and roads.
Westfield Lane, 9:00hrs – 12:00hrs: Residents on Westfield Lane have been advised to park outside of the closed area should they wish to use their vehicle on Sunday morning between 9:00hrs through to 12:00hrs. No vehicle movement will be permitted during the race.
Rosemary Street, 9:00hrs – 12:00hrs: From Westfield Lane, runners will turn left onto Rosemary Street. The dual carriage way will have a coned left lane, southbound.
Quaker Way, 9:00hrs – 12:00hrs: Four Seasons Shopping Centre has adjusted its opening times to correspond with the Reach Mansfield 10K. The car park will not be accessible between 9:00hrs through to 12:00hrs, and during this time will only be accessible by foot.
Early morning bus diversions, 9:00hrs – 12:00hrs: To coincide with the Reach Mansfield 10K, bus diversions will be in place in the city centre. During this time delays may occur and so residents are advised to allow extra time for all journeys.
The safety of all visitors and local residents is a top priority for the event. As such, the organisers have put a vast amount of time into the planning of routes to keep inconvenience to local residents and businesses as minimal as possible. This being said they ask those using the highways on the day to take extra care and try to keep any cars parked on the street to a minimum.
Race director Nik Emmonds said: “We recognise that this may cause some short-lived inconvenience but we hope that local residents will support Mansfield’s newest running spectacle and help support those raising funds for such good causes. We’d like to thank you in advance for your understanding and let you know that we appreciate your patience and co-operation.”
The race route, which consists of two 5K circuits of the historic town centre, starting at Titchfield Park at 9.30am, has also been chosen as the Notts AAA County Championships race for 2015.
Online entries for the Reach Mansfield 10K close on Friday 21st August at 12noon and with entries close to full, organisers are encouraging participants to book now to avoid disappointment.
