From the success of Portland College’s annual equality and diversity celebration, ONEday, over the last 10 years, on July 15th it will be showcasing the college and students at an open day called OURday.
From 1pm the college, based on the A60 between Mansfield and Ravenshead, will be opened up to the public with stands and live demonstrations by staff and students showcasing a variety of information and activities, including a display of Duke of Edinburgh skills by students, and an Enterprise Zone with extra special products designed and created by students available to purchase, such as homemade soaps and gardening products.
Visitors can have a go at sports such as wheelchair rugby and handball; sessions will be taking place in the Portland leisure centre throughout the afternoon. Portland students will be leading all of the sessions as well as taking part.
An information area will be filled with stands promoting the different areas of the college.
The reception area will be the site of a photo xxhibition created by Portland Freedom Day Centre citizens and staff. Black and white framed photos will portray the life of the Day Centre Citizens as they take day trips and enjoy activities based on the campus.
Refreshments are available throughout the afternoon at the Coffee Shop.
The day will be finished off with the annual Portland vs Nottingham Lions FC football match, kicking-off at 6pm.
Previously known as the Ball Bois FC, Nottingham Lions FC is a gay-friendly football team based in Nottingham since 2006 and has proudly offered football for all – regardless of age, sexual orientation, race or gender.
Portland College is committed to enabling people with disabilities to realise their potential through the development of functional communication, independence and employability skills.
