Next phase of Mansfield Extra Care development begins

Community regeneration specialist Keepmoat celebrated the start on site of the next phase at Poppy Fields (formerly Brownlow Road) Extra Care development, in partnership with Mansfield District Council.

The £2m second phase was awarded to Keepmoat following the success of the £8.4 million first phase. The build will see a further twenty homes built on the site of the Extra Care facility for over 55s, which is due for completion in May 2016.

Keepmoat and Mansfield District Council marked the second phase officially commencing work with a visit from the Executive Mayor of Mansfield, Kate Allsop, along with ward councillor, Ian Sheppard, for a tour around site to see phase two. m
Welcoming the development’s milestone, Keepmoat project Manager for the site, Gerry Doherty, said: “We are delighted to have won the next phase of Poppy Fields. The construction of the first phase is progressing well and all the team has worked seamlessly to make it a success. Being the partner of choice for the second phase marks a significant achievement for Keepmoat.”

Mayor of Mansfield Kate Allsop said: “We are very pleased that the second phase of this Extra Care development is underway and will result in an additional twenty homes for people over the age of 55. This is a shining example of what can be achieved through good partnership working. The scheme will provide many benefits for the local community, enabling older people to live independently and close to their friends and families.”

The Poppy Fields scheme, a mix of bungalows, houses and apartments, will enable people over the age of 55, who may have additional care needs, to live as independently as possible with care staff on site 24 hours a day.
