Rotarians host charity concert

A concert organised by Kirkby Rotary Club at St Wilfrid’s Church, Kirkby, raised funds for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

The concert included Newstead Brass, conducted by Duncan Beckley, and Ashfield Workplace Choir, conducted by Thea Avison.
Samantha Vernon sung mezzo soprano solos, accompanied by Chris Lawes on the keyboard.

The concert to a capacity audience ended with a sing-along medley of favourite wartime songs.

Suzane Morton opened the event, speaking about the charity that is dedicated to reducing the frequency of sudden cardiac death in young people.

She has been campaigning for the charity since she lost her son, Luke, aged 20, in February 2013.”

Rotn Philip Hurt, organiser of the concert, said: “We’re delighted with the response to this event.

“Kirkby Rotary Club will be able to donate a substantial sum to this very deserving cause, thanks to all those who performed and supported.”
