The head boy at Wellow House School, Freddie Skelton (13), has been awarded a prestigious sports scholarship at Oakham School, Rutland.
To gain the scholarship, he underwent fitness tests that included balancing on a beam and weight lifting with his legs to test if he would be prone to injuries.
Freddie (above) is a gifted cricketer, captaining the Wellow House team and playing at Farnsfield. He is also a middle distance runner, swimmer, rugby player and footballer, playing on the wing.
He said: “Lots of teachers at Wellow have helped to get me keen on different sports and I have joined clubs that have given me the opportunity and encouragement to play for them.
“I particularly liked the under-12s cricket season last year, when we lost only once and I made an unbeaten 50 at St Hugh’s.”
