Meet Forest star and help Ravenshead teen’s cricket world cup dream

A young Ravenshead cricketer is hoping to represent England overseas for a third time.

Lawrence Burton (pictured) is training to make the England Under-21 squad that will compete at the World Indoor Cricket Federation World Cup in Sri Lanka later this year.

Ahead of the potential trip, fundraising is taking place to help the teenager — including a special sporting event in Ravenshead with former England and Nottingham Forest football star Steve Hodge.

An Evening With Steve Hodge will be held in Ravenshead Village Hall on Friday, 4th April at 8pm. General tickets cost £15 and meet and greet tickets £25. A bar will be available.

Steve will tell stories of his career with Forest and England, as well as his current media work at the City Ground.

The evening will be hosted by Nick Johnson, who featured on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday programme for 28 years.

Tickets in advance are available from Colin Burton on 07780 676345.

Lawrence, who plays for Kirkby Portland CC, travelled to Dubai just over a year ago to play for England under-17s in the World Indoor Cricket Federation Junior World Series.

Having left The Joseph Whitaker School, Rainworth, after studying A-Levels, he is now at university in Leeds and involved in coaching juniors at Headingley, home of Yorkshire CCC.

Later this month he will be playing against a men’s touring side from the UAE in Leicester as part of the training programme.
