Mansfield and District Male Voice Choir celebrated its 80th anniversary year in 2024 with 25 events during the year, including appearing at the Royal Albert Hall and Southwell Minster.
Now, as it learns a new repertoire for 2025, it is inviting new members to join.
Musical director Ian Grice said members don’t need to read music and added that singing brings many health and social benefits.
Choir spokesman Geoff Mansfield said “Post covid our membership has increased by more than 60% and attendance at rehearsals and concerts exceeds 85%. These impressive statistics are underpinned by the sense of community, fraternity, and camaraderie sustained since 1944.
“The choir is respected by other choirs in the area and loved by audiences and members. Mutual support, mutual respect, a love of what we do together, and the effective management of the choir by our volunteer committee make for a vibrant atmosphere.”
Recent recruit Steve Cree said: “I now have a new choir family and I wish I had joined years ago.”
Would-be members can visit rehearsals at St Augustine’s Church, Mansfield, on Tuesdays at 7.30pm to see if the choir is for them or call Ian on 07956 148349 or secretary Eileen Lawrence on 01623 455373. Further information is at www.mansfieldmvc.co.uk
