Unwanted spectacles appeal

Year 7 students at Samworth Church Academy, Mansfield, are collecting unwanted spectacles to support Vision Aid Overseas as part of their community service work at the academy.

Vision Aid Overseas is dedicated to fighting poverty by bringing access to eye care for people in developing countries. They estimate that 670 million people, 10% of the world’s population are disadvantaged by poor vision or lack of spectacles.

Students want to try to collect as many spectacles as they can for the campaign and have already run a competition to design a poster promoting the drive which Jack Walker (pictured) won. His poster says, “Help give the gift of sight, recycle old glasses and help others to see.”

Students have asked that any members of the public wishing to donate their old glasses should take them to reception at the academy on Sherwood Hall Road.
