Mansfield heritage project seeks community contributions

Posted onPosted on 21st Oct
CEE Notts is seeking community submissions to include in its online archive celebrating the town and surrounding area’s Central and Eastern European community.

Thanks to support from Historic England’s Everyday Heritage grant programme, CEE Notts is creating a new online archive, celebrating, and recording the history of Central and Eastern Europe communities in the Mansfield and surrounding area.

Local residents are invited to attend a digital collection day on 26th October at Mansfield Library where their photos, diaries, letters, and other mementos can be recorded and added to the archive; to share and bring together stories from this important part of the local area. Those who cannot attend in person are able to submit their photos using an online form on the CEE Notts website.

Historic England celebrates working class histories and seeks to explore untold stories and celebrate the people and places at the heart of our history.

Liam Skillen, CEE Notts Project Manager said: “We have been amazed by the interest from local people so far, having already gathered over 100 photos from different communities in the town. We are really keen for the archive to represent the full breadth of the region from the Baltics to the Balkans, and would encourage anyone interested to share their story. We really want to record everything from the exceptional to the everyday.”

Volunteers will be running a digital collection day at Mansfield Central Library from 10am to 2pm on the 26th October.
