Sick and vulnerable young people have benefitted from Mansfield Folk and Acoustic Club’s generosity.

A donation of £400 was made to two charities — PACT and Changing Lives through Horses — after one of the club’s popular singers’ nights.

PACT provides practical support for families of children fighting cancer as well as the hospitals where they are being treated.

It buys equipment used in the medical care, arranges trips and treats, and can provide meals for the parents of children who are inpatients as well as free sweet treats for the young people.

The British Horse Society’s Changing Lives through Horses programme helps vulnerable and underprivileged children to connect with society through the power of horses, rekindling a desire to continue with education and training.

The charity believes that horses can help develop key lifeskills and open doors into a career pathway.

This was the club’s first charity donation of its 2024/2025 season, having donated £1,800 to local and national charities in the previous 12 months.

It is aiming to exceed that amount during the current season.

Mansfield Folk and Acoustic Club meets every Monday, including most bank holidays, at Forest Town Arena. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start with entertainment finishing around 10.30pm.

The club said it aims to provide a range of live acoustic music weekly at a price that means no one is excluded. A varied programme runs throughout the year.

Acoustic singer and musician nights are open to all for a £1 admission.

Feature nights include two 20-minute slots by a named performer, with the rest of the evening opened up to floor spots. Admission is £2.

Guest nights feature a main artist and support act for £5.

Anyone interested in playing, singing or listening to all forms of acoustic music is welcome.
