Howzat for a day with star legends!

Posted onPosted on 12th Sep

Cricketing stars of yesteryear graced the square at Farnsfield Cricket Club when PCA England Legends joined the club’s President’s Day celebrations for a second successive year.

Well-known players such as John Emburey, Phillip DeFrietas, Jonathan Trott, and Samit Patel were led by former England one-day captain Adam Hollioake.

President’s Day started with the legends coaching members of Farnsfield’s junior section.

Whilst guests and the PCA England Legends enjoyed an early high tea in a marquee, Farnsfield’s under-11 and under-13 squads played a match.

The highlight of the day was a T20 match between the PCA England Legends and a Farnsfield XI, which featured many spectacular shots as the former national stars showed they have lost none of their ability.

England Legends batted first and made a commanding total of 209 with Ali Brown hitting 128.

Farnsfield set about the challenging run chase commendably, and their outstanding performance came from opener Peter Frettingham, who scored an unbeaten 103 and retired shortly before the end of the innings. Despite his excellent effort, the home side fell short on 180.

Throughout the day PCA England Legends signed autographs and posed for photographs with spectators. President’s Day finished with live music from The Nightwatchmen.

The open age first XI narrowly lost to Wollaton 2nds in the final of the Popkess Cup.

Farnsfield’s open age 2nd and 3rd XIs both achieved promotion from their respective divisions in the Bassetlaw League — a second promotion in three years for the 3rds.

The club thanked overseas Australian Michael Archer for his contributions with both ball and bat, and coaching and and team management with the junior section.
