Music, comedy, and children’s shows feature in the new autumn season at Mansfield Palace Theatre.
Household name Aled Jones is among the stars at the venue over the coming months, bringing his Full Circle show on Wednesday, 9th October.
He was the boy treble who captivated the world with his angelic voice in the 1980s, selling more than seven million albums.
Aled was the original, classical crossover star. His recording of Walking In The Air in 1982, from the animated film The Snowman, firmly established him as a household name and he has become an integral part of the nation’s Christmas festivities.
Equally at home on the classical stage, or starring in musical theatre productions in London’s West End, his credits include lead roles in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.
In contrast, John Lydon — aka Johnny Rotten — who changed the face of music and sparked a cultural revolution is bringing his spoken word show I Could Be Wrong, I Could Be Right to the Palace on Thursday, 30th October.
The frontman and lyricist of the Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd (PiL) caused a political earthquake and transformed music in the late 1970s.
He will talk about how he sees life, along with his unique and extraordinary career, and take audience questions during the Mansfield show.
Also taking a trip down memory lane will be Showaddywaddy on Saturday 5th October with their 50th anniversary show, which will feature all the band’s greatest hits, including Under The Moon Of Love, Three Steps To Heaven, and Hey Rock And Roll.
Direct from London’s world-famous jazz club and combining world-class live jazz, narration, rare archive photos, and video footage, Ronnie Scott’s All Stars take to the stage a few days earlier on Wednesday, 2nd October.
Beyond The Barricade, the UK’s longest-running musical theatre concert tour, will perform favourite West End and Broadway hits on Wednesday, 16th October. Look out for numbers from The Phantom Of The Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, West Side Story, The Lion King, Blood Brothers, Miss Saigon, Hamilton, and many others, climaxing with a spectacular finale from Les Misérables.
Comedy in October includes The Comedy Store on Saturday, 19th October, and Kevin Bloody Wilson on Sunday, 27th October, celebrating 40 years since the release of his first album, which went on to obtain quadruple platinum status.
Music tribute acts coming up include The Shape Of You (Ed Sheeran) on Thursday, 3rd October; LiveWire (AC/DC) on Saturday, 12th October; Taylormania (Taylor Swift) on Wednesday, 30th October; and Dreams Of Fleetwood Mac (Fleetwood Mac) on Thursday, 31st October.
Rave On brings the best 1950s and 1960s rock ‘n’ roll hits on Wednesday, 23rd October, while show producer and number one recording artist Steve Steinman returns with Anything For Love on Saturday, 26th October.
His new production features more than 25 of Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman’s greatest hits.
Family shows in October include The Very Hungry Caterpillar on Thursday 10th and Friday, 11th October, featuring 75 puppets; There Was
An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly, on Tuesday, 22nd October; and Harry Panto: The Serpent Of Secrets, on Tuesday, 29th October.
Tickets for all shows — which in October also include horror films for Halloween and screenings as part of Mansfield Town Film Festival — can be booked at mansfieldpalace.co.uk or call the box office on 01623 463133.
