Generous author’s charity donations

The Mansfield branch of the RSPCA was the fourth and final local charity to benefit from a book charting Mansfield Town Football Club’s promotion back to the Football League in 2012-13.

Stag Party: The Inside Story Of Mansfield Town’s Return To The Football League sold out its print run at the turn of the year.

Author Matthew Halfpenny is pictured, second left, donating the remaining £653.66 proceeds from the book to the charity, which was chosen by Martin Shaw, right, who helped to publicise the book and facilitate its online sale through Stags’ fans website Stagsnet.

The money was handed over to RSPCA volunteer Phil Harrison ahead of the final home game of the 2014-15 season against Portsmouth. Also pictured is Stags defender Richie Sutton.

The book already raised £1,250 for three other charities – Nottingham City Hospital’s Prostate Cancer Appeal, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and The Emma Stamp Charitable Trust.

One book signed by the players in the title-winning squad made more than £100 in a prize draw, taking the total raised from the book to more than £4,500.
