A team from Mansfield Town FC tackled a climbing challenge to raise money for a network that helps children born with a cleft palate.

Keiran Coupe, academy education lead coach at the Stags, led the successful bid to climb the UK’s three highest peaks in 24 hours.

It was inspired by his daughter, Paislea, who was born with Pierre Robin syndrome, which means she has a cleft palate and a small lower jaw.

The family has been supported by Trent Regional Cleft Network, one of nine dedicated regional specialist cleft services in England and part of Nottingham Hospitals Charity.

Keiran was joined by Stags’ staff members Simon Ward, Luke Randle, Jamie Hardwick, Steve Chettle, Richard Cooper, driver Martin Mountain, schoolfriend Oliver Ashton, and Wayne Loseby, of West Nottinghamshire College as they scaled Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Mount Snowdon.

They are closing in on their £10,000 target to help the network, which provides workshops, activities, and family days, together with vital support for cleft care patients and their families. Additionally, funds will be allocated to specialised equipment and team education.

The cleft team at City Hospital, Nottingham, has played a vital role in Paislea’s heath care, and also helped Keiran and his wife, Jenna, care for Paislea.

“After what Jenna and I have been through, I thought it was only right to give something back,” said Kieran.

“The Three Peaks was a massive challenge, but Paislea has been through an even bigger one,” he said.

“You never prepare, as first-time parents, for what she’s been through. She’s been through a hell of a lot.

“But Paislea’s getting there now, and she’s been so, so strong. I’m so proud of her for what she’s been through.

“This charity has provided vital care and support to Paislea since birth, and we are incredibly grateful.

“Our aim is to ensure other families receive the same level of support that we did.

“I really appreciate everybody who has donated.

“My little girl will really appreciate it when she’s older and she realises what we’ve done for her.”

Jenna added: “It has been really tough, but everyone has been so supportive.

“The donations we have received shows there are still many good people in thi world.”
