Courageous Clipstone teenager Owen Hardwick has bravely shared his own mental health struggles to raise money for a successful local charity.

Student Owen completed 703,000 steps in April and collected more than £1,200 in sponsorship for the Lashes Foundation.

The charity was set up in memory of Evie Wilson following the 13-year-old’s unexpected death in 2021.

It aims to help people who are in need in the local community — just like Clipstone teenager Evie did.

Owen said: “I couldn’t think of a better charity to support than the Lashes Foundation.

“Why did I do 703,000 steps? Roughly 703,000 people lost their life to suicide worldwide last year, so every step I took in April was dedicated to someone who lost their life.

“This challenge meant a lot to me because of the struggles I faced last year and I would hope more people can find that support — hopefully the money raised helps to improve people’s lives.”

Owen did around 23.4,000 steps every day, including playing football, which he said also helped with his mental health.

“It was such a difficult thing physically, aiming for over 703k steps which equals about 330 miles,” he added.

“I never realised how difficult it would be, but it has been such a great challenge mentally. Hopefully the money raised makes a difference to people’s lives.

“It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of all my friends and family.

“I want to say a massive thank you to everyone for all their messages and donations. You have truly helped me to keep going through the challenging times.”

Last year Owen undertook another physical challenge, completing 100 miles in seven days for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of his aunt and raising £1,500.
