Tesco men launch charity single

Three Tesco phone shop colleagues who set up a charity band, Atlas, to raise funds for Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation are launching their single — featuring covers of Elton John’s Your Song and Robbie Williams’ Let Me Entertain You — on Saturday.

The single will be available to buy on CD, iTunes and GooglePlay and the band will be touring Tesco stores across Nottinghamshire, starting outside the Mansfield Chesterfield Road Extra store on Saturday.

The fun day, which will see them play the single outside the store, will include face painting, children’s characters, games and prizes for the family.

The trio — frontman Bryan Garner, phone shop manager at the store, and Ryan Wilson and Dave Price — are hoping to raise a record amount of money for the Tesco National Charity Partnership between Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation.

The single will be sold at 21 Tesco stores across Nottinghamshire as well as online. Each copy will cost £4 and the band are hoping to sell enough to get into the charts.

The group have managed to get backing and a unique special message from Hollywood actor John Schneider, star of The Dukes of Hazard and hit superhero show, Smallville.

Bryan said: “The charities and Tesco were absolutely gobsmacked when they heard about what we were doing – no one’s done anything like this to fundraise for them before.

“I’m a huge fan of Superman and Smallville. I never expected John Schneider to get back to me when I asked him to back us and I was absolutely amazed that he was happy to take the time to support our cause.

“It would be amazing if we could get into the charts, the sky’s the limit and if enough people buy the single then it just might happen.”

John Schneider said: “I’m honoured to join with Atlas in helping Tesco help such wonderful organisations as Diabetes UK and British Heart Foundation.”

Diabetes UK’s East Midlands fundraising manager Kirsty Mullock said: “It’s fantastic Atlas are using their creative flair to record charity versions of two classic British songs.
“The songs sound absolutely brilliant. I’m sure the band will be a success and raise a huge amount for the Tesco national charity partnership between Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation.”
