Shining bright for Road Safety Week

Posted onPosted on 6th Dec

Pupils at Heathlands Primary received a donation of hi-vis kit bags from David Wilson Homes to help keep them safe on the way to and from the Rainworth school.

The Nottingham-based housebuilder gave 35 bags for pupils to wear on dark mornings and nights as part of its commitment to Road Safety Week.

Led by Brake, the awareness week aims to inspire schools, organisations, and communities to take action on road safety and promote lifesaving messages.

Shaun Walker, executive head at Heathlands Primary School, said: “We are pleased to receive the donation because it helps to support our ethos around walking to school and developing a healthy lifestyle, while also keeping ourselves safe on these dark winter nights.”

The donation from the homebuilder, based close to the school at its Elm Tree Park development, was designed to encourage pupils to stay active, while making certain they remained visible during the darker nights and mornings.

As highlighted by Brake, five people die on roads every day, so making sure school children can safely walk to and from school is a priority for David Wilson Homes.

Mark Cotes, managing director at David Wilson Homes North Midlands, added: “Now the darker nights are here, we want to ensure local pupils are safe and seen on their route to and from school.”
