Dementia-friendly Singing For The Brain, which opened groups in Sutton and South Normanton in the past year to add to the initial one in Pinxton, is urging people going along to its December monthly events to dress festively.
There will also be a special fundraising Christmas Sing-along at The Bridge Baptist Church, Sutton, on Tuesday, 12th December, from 7.30pm to 9pm.
Tickets cost £5 and include mince pies and refreshments. For more details call Ellie Fessey 07813 148373.
Organiser Ellie has been working with people living with dementia for about four years through Sing Along With Ellie, which aims to help those living with dementia, their family and carers, their friends, and socially-isolated people.
Last year she joined forces with the Alzheimer’s Society and became a Singing For The Brain delivery partner, establishing a group that meets every two weeks in Pinxton.
Now there are the further groups in Sutton and South Normanton, with hopefully more to follow.
Ellie added: “The groups are filled with many different types of people, some living with varying aspects of dementia and some people attend purely as a social gathering with lots of laughter, singing and spending time with a friendly bunch of people. You do not have to be good at singing as it is a very informal gathering of like-minded people who enjoy singing and music as a social activity. The whole point of the groups are to have fun!”
Singing For The Brain groups cost £4 , including refreshments. People attending with a person with dementia pay £2. Professional carers do not have to pay the entrance fee.
