Fundraising day to help brave family’s tumour fight

Posted onPosted on 29th Aug

Three caring friends are appealing for people to support a special day in aid of brave Huthwaite dad George Roberts and his family.

George, who was was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the end of July, has already undergone a major operation.

Now he is waiting to hear how much of the tumour was removed in the surgery and what further treatment he faces.

To help take away the financial burden of the shock diagnosis for George, his partner, Emilie Roberts, and their two children — four-year-old Freddie and one-year-old Lillie — the three friends have formed George’s Helping Hands.

Emma Howes, together with Karen Marsh and Lucy Miles, hope the help group will support the family through the special Family Fun Day on 10th September, and other fundraising.

Raffles and auctions on the George’s Helping Hands Facebook page have already topped £2,000 and a GoFundMe fundraising page is also accepting donations.

The fundraisers, from Sutton and Stanton Hill, said: “We’ve already had lots of generous donations and kind people joining in our raffles. Let’s help this beautiful family in any way that we can.”

A grateful Emilie added: “After George had severe headaches and dizziness,we had the devastating news that he had got a brain tumour.

“He has had surgery to remove most of it and hopefully he can receive treatment to take away the rest.

“The next few months are going to be a long, hard journey for us, but we can do this. Obviously this has been a massive shock to the family.

“Emma (Howes) has been amazing and has set up the fundraising event and raffles.

“A massive thank-you to everyone who has supported us this far and been a shoulder to cry on. We will keep fighting together.”

The fundraiser event will be held at Polly Bowls Club, Unwin Road, Sutton, from 1pm to 5pm.

Children’s activities will include a bouncy castle from Kiddy Castle Hire, hook a duck, face painting, a circus workshop and tug of war with Tiger Entertainment, and appearances by Paw Patrol character Marshall, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

There will also be a wide variety of stalls, a mini Little Glow sensory room for babies, glitter tattoos with White Boutique, free balloons for children, raffles, a tombola, exotic encounters area, adopt a bear, a Zumbini 20-minute session with Little Legs with Lauren, sweet treats, dog treats, food, and a DJ with Weeto Entertainment.

Some of these activities will be payable on the day and the Polly Bowls Club bar will be open for refreshments.
