Swim with double Olympic gold medalist Rebecca Adlington at charity event

Posted onPosted on 9th Aug

The fifth Charity Swimathon is taking place at Mansfield’s Water Meadows Swimming Complex on Saturday 9th September, organised by Mansfield Rotary and The Armchair Club.

Rebecca Adlington has again agreed to be the event’s patron and she expects to be taking part, subject to any broadcast activities. Elliot Clogg, the area’s 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, and his girlfriend, Kornelia Fiedkiewicz, a Polish Olympic and world champion, will both again take part.

To date the four Swimathons have raised £18,248 that has all found its way to the swimmers’ charities, Rotary charities, and donations from The Armchair Club to support local sports people.

In previous events the teams from Wynndale Primary School, Mansfield, raised £438; Sutton Swimming Club raised £1,800; and North Notts Junior Hockey Academy raised £330 with many more groups and individuals all enjoying taking part and raising money.

There is already a record number of entries this year with three swimming clubs committed to having a large numbers of their members take part. In addition, there is a big entry from The Brunts Academy, as well as regular participants from many local charities and sports clubs.

More Leisure Community Trust has confirmed its sponsorship of the event by providing facilities free of charge and necessary lifeguard support.

The event is a great opportunity for schools, clubs, charities, local voluntary groups, and individuals to enjoy a short 15-minute swim, while at the same time raising money for both their personal charity and the important fundraising that both Mansfield Rotary and The Armchair Club carry out in supporting local good causes across Mansfield and Ashfield.

The Swimathon will take place from 5pm to 9pm.
