Helping male survivors of domestic abuse

Posted onPosted on 15th Jun

Equation, a leading provider of domestic abuse services in Nottinghamshire, has been awarded accreditation by national body Respect UK for its helpline and support service for male victims.

The charity is the first organisation in England to achieve the Respect Male Victims Standard certification.

To celebrate the achievement, Equation hosted an event where Marie Bower, head of service for survivors and perpetrators, detailed milestones since the service was launched in 2014.

She thanked those who have supported the service and outlined the range of support services available to male survivors of domestic abuse.

The Domestic Abuse Service for Men team members were praised for their hard work and dedication.

The services, delivered by a team of Independent Domestic Violence Advocates and support workers, ensure survivors are aware of their rights, options, and support available, ensure survivors feel heard and supported, provide safety interventions and provide emotional and practical support tailored to survivors’ needs.

As well as supporting male survivors, Equation trains professionals who work with all adults and children experiencing abuse, and delivers a programme of healthy relationship education in Nottinghamshire schools.

Respect is a nationwide organisation in the domestic abuse sector.
