Men’s mental health was football match goal

Posted onPosted on 4th May

A football match was held to raise awareness of men’s mental health and male suicide after the tragic death of Kirkby man Sean Lynk.

Now Sean’s father, Graham Lynk, said he would devote the rest of his life to promoting work to persuade men with mental health issues to talk through their problems.

Sean, 30, who was found dead shortly after moving into a flat in Mansfield, loved football and the charity match and fun day at Bentinck Miners’ Welfare, Kirkby, was used to promote the issue and raise money for the work of Nottinghamshire men’s mental health service Enlighten The Shadows.

Graham told the BBC: “We’re still in shock and have got no answers. Sean was a brilliant lad.

“For the rest of my life I want to help other people. Sean’s death will help to save lives.”

One of the organisers of the event, Sean’s friend, Blake Worthington, added: “It’s about making the community aware of men’s mental health and our suicide prevention work.”

Rory Green, founder of the charity, said: “We need to talk and help men to talk.

“That’s why Enlighten The Shadow exists, to chat to men and save lives from suicide.

“Nothing is too hard for us to listen to. You matter and your feelings matter.”

A men’s group, named Sean’s Group, has been launched at Kirkby micro pub The Dog House. It first meets on 22nd May at 7pm. For more about Enlighten The Shadows go to https://www.facebook.com/EnlightenTheSh1
