Aid missions charity needs new storage home

Posted onPosted on 5th Apr

A charity that sends educational, medical, and emergency aid overseas is appealing for a new base to store its donations.

The National Police Aid Charity (NPAC) has been based locally since it began 30 years ago — and for the past nine years has been at Crown Farm Industrial Park, Forest Town.

However, NPAC has been asked to leave the premises by the end of June and is now desperately looking for new storage facilities to continue its good work.

It would use any new building to store donations of development aid, such as school tables, chairs, cupboards, hospital beds, wheelchairs, and walking aids. NPAC volunteers would also pack donations of books, medical items, stationery, and school and sports clothing there.

Donations are loaded into a 40ft shipping container by volunteers around once a month.

The charity has sent aid to Africa — mainly Zambia, The Gambia, Malawi, and Zanzibar — with some items going to Ukraine in the past year.

The charity also collects and sells domestic furniture at a very low-cost to raise funds and help those in need in the Mansfield area.

The charity said this recycles items that would otherwise go to landfill.

Anyone who can help the long-running charity secure a warehouse or offer help in another way is asked to contact [email protected] or call 0844 8701 999.

NPAC started in 1993 when a group of police officers used their influence, networks, and negotiating skills to find and deliver huge amounts of humanitarian aid to places that other NGOs were unable to reach.

Thirty years later they are now an enthusiastic and experienced group of people from all walks of life who successfully use that same name and influence to deliver aid all over the world.
