New members wanted at Warsop Probus

Posted onPosted on 11th Apr

Warsop Probus Club, which was formed in 1979 to give retired men a chance to mix with others on a relaxed monthly basis, is welcoming for new members.

At each meeting there is a guest speaker, whose talks last for about an hour and cover a variety of subjects.

For example, in the past talks have been given by air cabin crew as well as a local man who spoke about his interest in rescuing parrots and even took a few to the meeting.

A talk about the National Tramway Museum at Crich was followed by a guided tour (pictured) later that year.

Brian Bradley, chairman of the club, said: “The purpose of these meetings is to try to promote friendship, with relaxed meetings and interesting speakers.

“This is all cemented together by a two-course meal, and friendly banter over a drink in the bar.

“Our membership includes teachers, a professor, miners, firemen, and veterans from the Armed Forces.

“Once a year we hold the Bradley Award to help and promote two deserving students from the Meden School in Warsop.”

Meetings are held at the Plough Inn on Church Street, Warsop, every third Wednesday of the month, at 10.30am.

Paula Higgingbottom, bar manager at the Plough Inn, said: “We enjoy hosting these meetings and its something the bar staff look forward to.”
