Mansfield salon Mark Leeson was named International Artistic Team of the Year at the International Hairdressing Awards (IHA) in a top-secret, live-streamed announcement.

Mikel Luzea, director and founder, and Sergi Bancells, global ambassador of the awards, sponsored by Revlon Professional®, travelled to Mansfield to surprise the award-winning salon on Regent Street.

Seen as the most prestigious prize in worldwide hairdressing, the shortlist was chosen by an international jury panel.

This was the fifth consecutive nomination for the Mark Leeson team — and there was further recognition.

Bayleigh Peace and Laura Scott from the salon were shortlisted for Best International Men’s Commercial Collection.

Commenting on the surprise award, co-owner and creative director Richard Darby said: “Our art team is the jewel in the crown at Mark Leeson.

“We have so many talented individuals under one roof and to see them recognised on a global stage is such an honour.

“We can’t believe that the team at the IHA managed to keep this so secret. Apparently, Mikel and Sergi stayed overnight in Mansfield before surprising us at the salon. We had no idea!”

Mark Leeson himself added: “What an incredible result. I’m so proud of the hard work and dedication our art team shows on a daily basis. We think we’ve got the best team in the world at Mark Leeson and this award proves it.”

The 2023 IHA awards ceremony will take place in a spectacular celebration in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, in May.
