Mansfield setting for journalist’s first novel

Posted onPosted on 5th Mar

An investigative journalist has used Mansfield and Nottingham as the backdrop for a novel.

Peter Woolrich, whose parents lived in the town, said A Corroded Soul, which is published by The Book Guild, reflects his own life.

Set in a fictional Nottinghamshire village, the book follows 50-year-old journalist Daniel Connah, who takes a fresh look at life after his mother’s death.

Based on his own life, author and BAFTA-nominated investigations journalist Peter blends fact and fiction in this searing self-examination.

Peter, who has worked for national newspapers, magazines, and television, wrote the novel while grieving for his mother after she was killed in a car crash.

He said: “As an award-winning investigative journalist, I’ve had guns, knives, and a Samurai sword pulled on me.

“I largely gave up my career 10 years ago to pursue a lifelong ambition to write books, which is far scarier.

“A Corroded Soul is the first in a planned trilogy.

“It is about morality, regret, and the perverse nature of grief.”
