Crafters create floral coronation tributes

Posted onPosted on 13th Mar

Community-minded people in Forest Town have decided to decorate the town’s main street to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III in May.

Each week volunteers are knitting, crocheting, and making flowers in other ways for the royal occasion.

The Coronation Crafters meet in St Alban’s Church on Thursday mornings, from 10am to 12noon, and welcome any newcomers to join them.

A spokesperson said: “Since the idea of decorating Forest Town’s main street for the coronation was launched a few weeks ago, the enthusiasm has grown and each week we have had to extend the number of tables as more people come along.

“People are knitting, crocheting, and making flowers in other ways. Golden yellow crowns are being crocheted, while flowers are being made out of the bottom of pop bottles — the ideas people are coming up with are wonderful.

“People who could not knit or crotchet four weeks ago are now teaching others and new friendships are growing.

“Additionally, some are knitting flowers for us at home and dropping them off at Forest Town Library. A big thank you to everyone talking part.”
