Putting their skills into fundraising

Posted onPosted on 16th Feb

The John Eastwood Hospice, Sutton, teed off the new year with an £11,000 donation from Sherwood Forest Golf Club.

The Mansfield club presented the money after a successful year of fundraising, led by men’s captain Phil Revill and ladies’ captain Chez Abraham.

Lisa Todd, fundraising manager at the hospice, thanked the Eakring Road club and said the donation would go towards the £650,000 the hospice needs to raise through fundraising and donations each year to continue providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care from its Mansfield Road base.

The golf club’s captains choose a charity to support each year and raise money through various events.

Phil said: “Chez and myself chose the John Eastwood Hospice because of the amazing things it does for local people at the most challenging of times.

“We also thought it would be a fitting tribute to Brenda Mudford, John Eastwood’s daughter, who was a long-standing member of Sherwood Forest Golf Club before she passed away in 2021.”

Phil and Chez launched their fundraising year at the Captains’ Changeover event, where they each drove from the tee, along with junior captain Harriet Williams, with guests asked to bet on where their balls were likely to finish.

The captains’ biggest fundraising events of 2022 were the Captains’ Weekend and a charity auction, where 18 lots were donated by fellow club members and local businesses.

Phil added: “It was very humbling to witness the incredible generosity of businesses and members, who not only supported the fundraising activities but also made cash donations.”

The hospice is hosting a fundraising Elvis tribute night at the Hare And Hounds pub, Warsop, on Saturday, 4th March.
