Groups in Mansfield, UK and Mansfields across the globe are signing up to part in International Clean-Up Mansfield Day on Friday, 12th June.
Mansfield Primary Academy and 4th Mansfield Woodhouse Scout Group are among those who will be taking part in the award-winning event, which seeks to bring communities together to improve the environment they live and work in.
They will be joined overseas by Mansfield Outdoor Centre in Ontario, Canada and groups in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, who are keen to be involved.
Last year more than 45 groups from Mansfields across the world, took part including Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Missouri and Ohio in the USA and Victoria in Australia.
International groups have been invited to take part again this year, along with schools, community groups, businesses and individuals.
All participants will be considered for an award, which will be presented at a ceremony later in the year.
Last year’s award winners were:
Business Innovation Award — I Do Bridal Boutique; School Innovation Award — Eastlands and Netherfield schools, Mansfield Primary Academy, Wynndale Primary School; Friends Group Award — Friends of Fisher Lane; Community Award — Innova House and Maun Conservation Group; Young Person Award — Maun Troop, 4th Mansfield Woodhouse Scout Group
Portfolio holder for the environment Coun Philip Shields said: “We want everyone in the district to get involved with this amazing day, which not only improves our local environment, but encourages communities to work together to show that they care about where they live and work.
“Last year, more than 306 bags of rubbish were collected by hundreds of volunteers, from toddlers to people in their 80s, and we want to repeat that success.”
