Fundraising to send brave Lexi-May on a dream holiday

Hundreds of pounds have been raised at a funeral service to help send a young girl battling cancer on a dream holiday.

Staff from A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service collected £610 at its Rainworth branch after hosting a charity car wash.

They washed over 30 cars to help the fundraising to send brave Rainworth 10-year-old Lexi-May Pearce on a dream holiday to Walt Disney World Resort, Florida.

Lexi-May has been battling Wilms’ tumour, a type of kidney cancer, since her diagnosis in 2019, and has undergone multiple surgeries and chemotherapy after relapsing three times.

A.W. Lymn first became aware of Lexi-May and her condition through David Clarke, funeral director at its Mansfield branch. His partner works alongside Lexi-May’s mother, Danielle Pearce, and the company decided to help and organise the car wash to support the family’s £8,000 fundraising target.

David said: “The car wash was a fantastic way to raise money for such a worthwhile cause and we’re delighted to know that we played a part in raising such a substantial amount of money.

“It was wonderful to see the community, and the A.W. Lymn family, coming out to show support with smiles all around.

“A personal favourite moment of mine was when the lovely Lexi-May and her brother, Dillan, came down to get stuck in and jet down some vehicles with the team. They both did a fantastic job.”

Following the fundraiser, Ben Percival, who works in marketing and PR at A.W. Lymn, presented Lexi-May with a cheque for £610.

She was also gifted a golden ticket from UPS, which has also been raising money, to give Lexi-May a free tour around a plane at East Midlands airport.

Danielle said: “We would love your help to give Lexi a once-in-a-lifetime holiday that she so deserves.

“She has spent most of the last three years in hospital and never complained, is always upbeat and with a smile.”
