The Christmas season of famous students’ quiz show University Challenge is to feature a former Brunts School student from Mansfield.

Tom Scott will captain the University of York team on 21st December against Durham University.

Christmas University Challenge, which runs daily over the festive period, is a spin-off from University Challenge and features teams of noteworthy alumni from British universities competing in the same format as the parent show.

Scott, a well-known YouTuber, educator, and web developer, graduated from the university with a degree in linguistics.

He is also no stranger to TV quiz shows, having captained a team on BBC’s Only Connect and presented Sky’s Gadget Geeks.

Scott also made the news while at university for creating a website that parodied the government’s Preparing For Emergencies and featured a section telling people what to do in the event of a zombie apocalypse. He was also the UK organiser of International Talk Like A Pirate Day.
