Mansfield District Scout leaders have been recognised for their hard work and commitment, along with all other Scout leaders in Nottinghamshire, with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Peter Hawley, Mansfield Scouts District Commissioner, and Scout leaders from the Mansfield area attended a ceremony at County Hall.
The Queen’s representative, Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire Sir John Peace (above, fifth left), presented certificates and pin badges to all leaders in the county in recognition of their dedication and hard work to Scouting.
Award assessors noted the usual weekly activities on offer to young people as well as wider work in the county, including a charity shop in Sherwood that raises money to fund the training of adult volunteers, the water activity centre at Hoveringham, the provision of subsidised meals to the elderly and vulnerable in Nottingham, and the staging of the Gang Show for a week at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham.
