Disability football team welcomes new players

Posted onPosted on 27th Oct

A growing disability team that is based at Rainworth Miners’ Welfare Football Club is proving popular — and is ready to welcome new players.

Run by Phil Colledge, the group of youngsters train on a Monday during term term, from 6pm to 7pm.

The team is part of the East Midlands PAN Disability League, which has monthly tournaments.

Its kit is sponsored by Sam’s Workplace, a Rainworth-based community cafe and sweet shop, which works with adults with learning disabilities.

Pictured in their kit are, from left, Amy, Tierney, Sinead, Ryan, Sam, Harry (with his father, Simon) and Thomas.

Phil said the first tournament the team took part in was a learning curve, but the team still managed to draw one match, while losing two.

“But we learned and really improved and at this month’s tournament we did so much better. Our adult players won two matches and lost one game, while our younger players won three and lost one.

“So it’s definitely onwards and upwards for all.”

Phil said anyone interested in joining would be welcome, call him on 07513 954786.
