‘An amazing place to learn’

A Warsop primary school has received an Ofsted rating of Good.

Despite the disruption caused over the past two school years by the pandemic, Ofsted recognised that pupils are happy at Birklands Primary‚ and said the motto ‘work hard, be kind’ is evident throughout the school.

Pupils have positive attitudes to learning, there is an ethos of everyone being valued, and no one is left out. They described the school as an amazing place with supportive friends.

It was the school’s first inspection under the new Ofsted Education Inspection Framework.

Celia Smith, executive head teacher, said: “I am immensely proud of Birklands. The Ofsted report and rating is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of all the staff and their children.

“Birklands is a truly amazing place to learn and this was evident to the inspectors during their visit on two of the hottest days of the year.”

Birklands, part of Nova Education Trust, said it was proud of the relationships it builds with pupils, parents, and the wider community.

A spokesman said: “We frequently welcome visitors to our school and offer educational visits to enhance our curriculum and provide opportunities and experiences, which our pupils may not have otherwise.

“At all times of the school day, behavioural expectations are set to a high standard, including during our before and after-school provision.

“Members of the wider community positively comment upon the pupils’ behaviour beyond the parameters of the school environment.”

Ofsted also recognised that pupils behave well and that staff encourage them to take responsibility for their actions. Pupils know what is expected of them and they concentrate during lessons.

The spokesman added: Our pupils look to their futures with aspiration and a desire to succeed. We instil in our pupils the unshakeable belief that they can achieve whatever they choose, as long as they are motivated and committed to the learning and work involved.”
