Windfall for charity that helps elderly

Posted onPosted on 8th Sep

A Ravenshead-based charity set up to help older people has received a £5,000 award from Nottinghamshire County Council’s Local Communities Fund (LCF).

It is one of 14 organisations to benefit from support in the fund’s latest round of funding.

Cornwater Evergreens, established in 2001, has grown to include a friendship club, memory club and charity shop in Mansfield.

It provides activities and services for older people in the community, offering a variety of stimulating mental and physical activities in a social environment.

The charity has also expanded its geographical reach to include Blidworth, Rainworth and Mansfield as well as Ravenshead.

The money will help provide activity provision and materials as part of a wider provision of mental and physical wellbeing activities for vulnerable, older people.

LCF gives organisations an opportunity to apply for capital grants of up to £20,000 to make improvements to facilities that support community access and boost health and wellbeing.

Under the scheme, groups can also make an application to secure a revenue grant worth up to £5,000 to help projects with running costs — such as providing transport or food for projects.

Coun John Cottee, cabinet member for Communities, said: “We have had a fantastic response to the Local Communities Fund since its launch last autumn and I am delighted the latest allocation is going to groups that have demonstrated they are helping people to live healthier and more independent lives.

“I would encourage any group, charity or sports clubs looking to make a difference in their communities, particularly for more vulnerable residents, to get in touch.”
